Guides

Dzylon July 19, 2012 User blog:Dzylon

Current system

Any guide can be in the main namespace as long as Template:Guide is present at the top of the article. Guides cannot be "mixed" with canon articles.

  • Pros: Unregistered users (like Silversabeast) can have guides on the wiki. If the creator wishes, guides can be edited by other users.
  • Cons: Subjective info can be found in the same place as objective canon info. This may get out of hand as more and more guides are created. Several guides on the same subject might be present, and some guides may be low quality or outright false.

Blog post requirement

Blogs must be in the user blog namespace. Template:Guide must also be present to prevent confusion.

  • Pros: Subjective info and objective canon info are totally isolated. There is no chance of low-quality or incorrect content in the main namespace.
  • Cons: Unregistered users can not have guides on the wiki. Even if the creator wishes, guides can not be edited by other users.

Compromise

A compromise between the two other systems. Registered users can place guides in their blog namespace, while unregistered users must keep their guides in one compilation page, with specific guides kept in drop-down segments (similar to the to-do list in the community portal). Registered users may maintain guides in the compilation page, but these guides are much less visible (as individual blog posts can be listed in Category:Game Guides). Incorrect or illegible guides are not allowed on the compilation page.

  • Pros: Unregistered users can have guides on the wiki. If the creator wishes, guides can be edited by other users. Subjective info and objective canon info are totally isolated. There is no chance of low-quality or incorrect content in the main namespace.
  • Cons: Guides by unregistered users are less visible.

For the record, I'm fond of the third system. If you have any ideas not listed here, please share them.
